The Sergeant and Sergeant-major from the Dukes took very good care of us. We were asked if we got anything to eat. "Do you have your haversacks?" We pointed to the linen bags on our hips. They then handed us plastic sacks with sandwiches, chips, drinks, and a pastry. "Here are your haversacks!", haversack being a term for what we Americans would call a sack lunch.
